Romford BID proudly hosted a vibrant Diwali Exhibition as part of the Community Venue Network Open Day, held across Havering on Saturday 21 March. The event welcomed residents, partners, and visitors for a day of culture, celebration, and community connection.
Running from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, the Diwali Exhibition served as the highlight of the day. At its heart was a striking photography showcase by Hannah Davis, capturing five years of Diwali celebrations in Romford. The collection beautifully reflected the colour, energy, and strong sense of community that the festival has fostered locally. The exhibition drew an impressive turnout, with over 200 attendees.
Guests were warmly welcomed by Julie Frost, Manjit Singh, and James Jackson. Visitors also enjoyed a specially produced film by Lee Barham, showcasing the evolution of Diwali celebrations in Romford and highlighting the festival’s lasting cultural impact.
A key announcement during the event revealed that the next Diwali celebration will take place on Sunday 25 October 2026. Julie Frost and James Jackson also outlined opportunities for businesses, community groups, media partners, and individuals to support the event through sponsorship and funding. Those interested were encouraged to make contact for further details. Adding to the festive atmosphere, guests were treated to a lively dance performance led by Veena and her talented troupes of children and adult performers.
The day also marked a significant milestone for HASWA, celebrating the successful purchase of its building from Havering Council. Mr Narwal spoke about the achievement, expressing gratitude to Ray Morgon, Barry Mugglestone, and Stephane Nunn for their support. The celebrations concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially marking the beginning of a new chapter for the organisation. Overall, the Open Day provided a valuable opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate shared achievements, and experience the rich cultural heritage of Diwali in a welcoming and inclusive setting.
