North Street Garden Pop-up park

With support and funding from Romford BID, the much-loved pop-up park on North Street has been transformed into a permanent green space, officially unveiled on Friday 2 May 2025 by the Mayor of Havering, Gerry O’Sullivan.

Originally introduced in 2022 as a temporary installation, the pocket park quickly became a favourite spot for residents, workers, and visitors. In 2025, with support from Romford BID, the London Borough of Havering, and the UK Government, the garden was renovated with a fresh look and exciting new enhancements. Following an online community vote across Romford BID’s social media channels, the space was named North Street Garden.

Designed to bring colour, calm, and community spirit to Romford’s high street, North Street Garden provides a welcoming resting place for all, offering a peaceful green oasis next to local shops and businesses.

The revitalised garden features:

  • Lush planting with trees, pollinator-friendly flowers, and drought- and shade-tolerant species.
  • Upgraded paving combining new materials with reclaimed site pavers for a sustainable finish.
  • Low rain garden planters and a raised planter with a distinctive glazed brick front wall.
  • Modern street furniture, creating a comfortable environment for visitors of all ages.

This transformation is part of Romford BID’s wider mission to enhance the town centre, foster community pride, and create a vibrant, accessible urban environment for everyone.
